Does anyone here have the internal hdmi mod for the xbox and could answer a question about audio

it looks really cool and from what i understand its a 100% digital to digital way of connecting the console to a display so naturally im tempted. But im curious how the audio works out of it. Like say its a game that supports 5.1 sound, right now i run the toslinnk cable from the hd av pack to my optical switch which runs into my speaker system for 5.1 channel sound. With the hdmi mod the audio would go to my tv then out of its toslink jack to the sound system. Would it still work the same and give me the same 5.1 channel sound?
