8Bitdo adapter defaulting to playstation classic controller bind

I have a M30 (genesis lookalike) 8bitdo controller, when plugged in via usb it works great. In the controller bind area i can select "retro" controller and all my controls work great. When I try to use the adapter it doesn't even give me the option. Its either disabled or PS classic controller which has all my controls messed up.
what do i have to do to get my controller working in bluetooth?
