Softmodded xbox disc drive not functioning.

I recently picked up a softmodded xbox there are no games or anything installed past the original mod. I have tried numerous disc drives that are properly functioning, none of them wanted to read or even open. When I start it up the drive makes booting noises but that's about all i get out of it. Is it something with the softmod software? Just looking for some leads
