Which DS is the one to buy?

Which DS is the one to buy?

My son is really getting into Pokemon lately and I'd like to get him one to play HeartGold but there are so many different models and I have no idea what's what. Which one is best for playing that game? I'd prefer one that can be used with the r4 cards.
