dreamcast ports failed on two consoles after switching controllers while running.

I’m working at a used game store, and was testing a lot of dreamcast controllers (using kao the kangaroo as a tester) when I switched controllers and suddenly none of the ports are working with any controllers. I starting using a different console, and the same thing happened soon after when switching controllers. Both consoles are now not working with any controllers. Does anyone have an idea of what the issue could be? I’ve cleaned the ports, tried many different controllers and they simply do not work anymore (doesn’t power the vmus either.)
