Thayer's Quest Sound Issue

I just picked up a Thayer's Quest. The right side of the audio is static that raises and lowers with the potentiometer. Ive swapped cabled etc to no avail. When I put headphones on the headphone jack i get sound out of two channel but the game speakers do not. I've swapped speakers etc and no change. Any ideas? Any Thayer's Quest experts out there?
