Requesting Baldur's Gate 3 Update: Does the cross save procedure actually allow you to recover saves after they are wipe

I saw Larian tweet from the 31st. They seem confident that if you create a Larian account and turn on cross saves (and wait for cross saves to upload after manually saving), you can recover your saves after deletion.

Is this true? Can anyone confirm? Has anyone still lost saves trying this method?

We can gauge this thread to see if the game is worth playing again or if we should continue to wait.
