VMU not detected

[/dreamcast]

I recently bought a Dreamcast bundle with the console, 2 controllers and 2 VMU's. Both cards work well unplugged, but only one of them works when plugged in. The working one works on either controller and I heard about non working ones locking up controllers, but that never happens. So the problem shouldn't be the controllers. I opened up the nonworking one and did my best to clean whatever connectors, but the Dreamcast still won't see it. Edit: I also put in new batteries.
