Is there anyway to balance out the cheating AI's in Sonic Shuffle?

I really wanna finish story mode without hacking/using save states. Does anyone have any tips to make it more fair? When I'm playing multiplayer with friends we give each other the cards we need. We're happy to help each other as long as we're losing to each other and not the AI hahaha. It's honestly really fun teaming up against the AI, way more balanced. Unfortuantely story mode is only single player VS 3 cheating AI's -_-
