Things to know about taking care of a PS2 Fat?

Hello,
I’m picking up a PS2 Fat I left at my dads. I’m looking into getting a soft mod done, maybe a new hard drive, loading some games and stuff.
Any tips I should know for cleaning, maintenance, modding? Is there a specific component that’s known to fail? Any general things to know?
I have experience taking care of an Original Xbox, just adding the PS2 to my collection.
