Can i use as external memory for play and install games a pendrive?

And i'm using it as external games memory drive. So i'm installing and playing xbox one games like red dead redemption 2 or state of decay 2 on my series x. It is a good idea or pendrive can't be used like that?
The pendrive is a little bit hot but nothing extraordinary in my opinion, and seems to work well.
