In Ps2 settings should I set it to 4:3, 16:9 or full? I am using a retrotink 5x on a 4k tv

pretty much what title says, couldnt find info online sorry if its been asked before but im having some issues with the 5x, and the same goes with my TV settings, should i set it to 4:3 16:9, or just scan? or do i just change these settings on a per game basis? Oh and im using OPL should i keep the widescreen setting off? im a younger person so i didnt exactly grow up in this area of games and dont understand it completely apologies
