What happens to Inactive Accounts?

[Released: 2013] Moving away from its predecessor's PowerPC-based architecture, the Xbox One marks a shift back to the x86 architecture used in the original Xbox; it features an AMD Accelerated Processing Unit (APU) built around the x86-64 instruction set.

What happens to Inactive Accounts?

Post by /xboxone »

I don't know about you guys, but I've had several alternate Xbox accounts over the years. I've forgotten the login information for most of them so they've been inactive for the past 6 to 8 years.
Out of boredom I searched the gamertags of my old accounts and they're still there. Everything I could find online says that inactive accounts get deleted after 5 years of inactivity unless purchases are made. I didn't purchase anything on those old accounts, but I did use 2 Day Xbox Live Gold Trials on one of them.
I know I deleted the associated Microsoft account with my oldest abandoned account (inactive for 8 years) and it's still there last time I checked. Do these accounts just lay dormant for eternity?
