How to ensure cartridge longevity

Post by /gameboy »

I have just read this article on the short lifespan of DS and 3DS cartidges and I am kind of worried about my GBA games.
How can you ensure the longevity of these cartridges, what is the best way to preserve it, how to store them?
I have heard of a few cases of peoples GBA Fire Emblem cartridge stopping to work because it has reached the maximum amount of save writings, since it automatically saves after every move. Would replacing the RAM solve this and repair this cartridge? I heard this was possible besides replacing the battery, but don't know where to order them as it's not of a common issue yet.
If I would want to use my cartridges in 50 years, would it be useful to get some RAMs now for repairing, in case they won't be manufactured in the future?
