Strange USB Problem (Slim 4gb)

Every time I download a game onto the USB drive I’m using, the game will work, be fully playable, and will show under games and apps in storage devices. But when I turn off the console, the next time it’s started the game will not be playable, and will not show under storage. It will show there is storage being used, but everything shows as 0kb. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I’ve formatted the drive and everything. Thanks ahead for any help given.
