Softmodded Xbox only runs full speed on Ethernet cable. Anyway to fix it?

I bought a softmodded xbox off of eBay for my birthday and ftp’d some games to it. The games run surprisingly well, but only so long as the ethernet cable is plugged into the modem. Is there any fix for this because the games basically unplayable otherwise. Thanks ??
Edit: Some games just straight up don’t work unless the Xbox is connected to the internet
