Not reading discs

Post by /gamecube »

Well my copy of Mario Party 6 came in today, my first not-scratchy game, and I can't get it to play.
The system starts as normal, attempts to read the disc it can tell is there, but doesn't read it. Laser on and moving, disc spinning, but it just goes to the menu. Disc screen reading "No disc".
The game doesn't appear scratched, I've tried cleaning the disc, the laser, adjusting the pot (set to about 220 ohms now, was 152 before) to no avail.
I'll add that the game is Japanese, the console is US, but I jumped the pads under the heatsink to make it think it's a Japanese console. Japanese system menu and all.
