How do I burn games so that the Xbox can read them?

How do I burn games so that the Xbox can read them?

I have a softmodded xbox and I know the way to go is to transfer games via FTP. Now I have heard it is also possible to just burn games? How does that even work?
I burned an ISO on a dual layer DVD and of course my Xbox does not read it. So out of curiosity: Is this simply not possible or what do I have to do so that it works? I saw some videos on Youtube where people just burn an ISO with ImgBurn and the xbox reads it without any problems.
