Trying to run VLC from ssh and show on HDMI screen

Post by /RaspberryPi »

This is driving me crazy. I used to run omxplayer for this and it worked flawlessly, but I've seen it has been discontinued in favor of VLC, so I want to migrate to VLC, but I can't even get the basics to work.
So far I've found out that first I need to set a global variable DISPLAY, so I have export DISPLAY=:0 in my rc.local file, and then I try to run from SSH with cvlc /media/myvideo.mp4 but I get a bunch of error messages.
VLC media player 3.0.16 Vetinari (revision 1.0.6-1682-g88158c836)
xcb_connection_has_error() returned true
[015e0958] main interface error: no suitable interface module
[01554b98] main libvlc error: interface "globalhotkeys,none" initialization failed

[62379ae0] gles2 generic error: parent window not available
[623795e8] mmal_xsplitter vout display error: Failed to open Xsplitter:opengles2 module
Anyone here has any experience with this?
