OTG and 8bitdo issue

I recently got an OTG cable so that I could use a bigger, faster USB to run Project Eris and it works great except for the fact that my 8bitdo and PS4 controller will no longer work when using it.
When I use my old slow USB 2.0 in the front ports my 8bitdo and controller work fine but as soon as i plug the USB into the OTG port at the back it stops working (this happens with both my old and new USB plugged into the OTG).
Because of this I am having to use my PS4 controller physically plugged in when using the OTG.
Any help would be immensely appreciated!
