Mount rpi4 as an external hard drive

Post by /RaspberryPi »

I’ve got an rpi4 4gb in an EON case, which mounts up to 4 hard drives via sata. It’s currently setup as a Plex server, but the pi’s inability to transcode is hamstringing the operation, causing buffering problems. I just got an nvidia shield pro, which has Plex Media Server already installed. Is there a way to connect the pi to the shield and have it read as an external hard drive? I assume it would mean flashing a new sd card, which is fine. Trying to avoid:
Wiping the pi’s mounted hard drive (~5TB of media) Transcoding said media Using Kodi (I hate it)
Ultimately I’m trying to build a local streaming library I can access when my internet is too slow to stream, which is often.
Thanks for any advice! I’m sorry for any stupid questions, past and future. Trying to learn
