Retroarch playlist thumbnails

I've done the process of adding project eris on my ps classic. I've set up some playlists for my games in retroarch which was easy enough. I want to add in thumbnails for these playlists but I don't have a USB WiFi adapter to use the online updater.
Is there any way of adding thumbnails by downloading it to your usb stick ? Or should I just get a USB Wi-Fi adapter to use the online updater?
