Remote Desktop connection becomes very slow after adding user to video group

Post by /RaspberryPi »

Hello!
I am working on a project on my Raspberry Pi and I need to access the webcam through some Python code. In order to do this, I need my user to be in the video group. I noticed that after I add my user to the video group and logout and then log back in, the Remote Desktop Connection becomes extremely slow - unusable even. I tried restarting, doing things all over again, etc. It always happens, and the same happened on another Pi (more on that below). It is worth noting that removing the user from the video group solves the issue after logging back in.
I've had this problem for a long time, and I had no idea how to solve it. It even made me buy another Pi because I thought mine was faulty (I was even told it was faulty by my teacher). It was only now that I noticed the cause.
It would be awesome if someone could help me, because I have absolutely no idea how these things are related nor could I find anything useful so far.
