Should I system transfer?

I have played my new Nintendo 3DS for years and love it. Recently my brother got a 2DS XL and I am impressed with the screen size!
I am considering purchasing a 2DS.
Has anyone transferred from a 3DS to a 2DS xl and regretted it? Any insight as to what you like/dislike about the 2DS vs new 3DS?
Will I lose my progress in my e-shop Pokémon games?
Also, which type of transfer should I do if I want to keep my old SD card, take it out, and put it into the new one?
