Ex wont give me passcode

Hi! I traded my ex a 3DS for his xbox360 because my son (8) never used the ds, but had some games from his dads that he wanted to play but no longer had a console. Apparently, the Xbox was set up for the family with an admin and it's password protected. You don't need the password to sign in, but some games won't play, I can't change any settings or reset the console without it. The dude ghosted me (not a long term thing) and won't return my messages asking for just the code. It's for my kid, I don't really know much about gaming and I don't have a ton of money to invest in it. Is there anything I can do to bypass the password or reset the console? Or is it basically a paperweight?
