Is it safe?

[Released: 1998] As suggested by the name, features a color screen. It is slightly thicker and taller than the Game Boy Pocket, which is a redesigned Game Boy released in 1996. As with the original Game Boy, it has an 8-bit processor and the custom Zilog Z80 central processing unit.

I like to play Pokémon Blue on my Gameboy Color. However, the speaker is broken and after a while, makes a buzzing sound even when the volume is all the way down. Is it safe for the Gameboy Color to open it up and snip the wire to the speaker? Will it effect anything else? EDIT: This probably doesn't matter but it's the line colored one and it's a model CGB-001
