Little help please. ABXY buttons not working on snes mini, how do I fix this?

As says above, I hadn't turned on my snes mini in a few months, but I do remember trying to get a controller to work with n64 games, think I changed them in retroarch at the time.
But for the life of me I just can't get into retroarch to change the buttons back to normal snes buttons. I can get into games from the main menu but ABXY just don't work 'in game'.
Could someone help me out please?
