Rom Hack Patches to NESC ROMS

Post by /classicNES »

Hey guys! I am looking at getting an NES Classic to do some mods. Particularly, I want to rip some of the ROMs in order to apply some hack patches to them (and then probably put these back on the system). However, I am concerned that the ROMs on the system will not be compatible with the patches I am looking at. I heard Nintendo may have made various edits to some of the games.

Particularly, I am looking at patching a copy of Final Fantasy and The Legend of Zelda I and II. I am learning Latin, and found these translations of these games into this archaic language:
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/1492/
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/1199/
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/1366/

Could anyone compare the ROM info found on these pages with the ROM info found on these titles on the console? Or, better yet, could any of you run test patches for me to see if they work? Just do not want to drop a bunch of money if this will not work.

On a related note, how easy is it to hack the console and use the FTP server to retrieve the games?

Thanks!
