Seaman can't hear me!! Has anyone talked to Seaman using a GDEMU?

I have an identical issue to this post, and I've been trying for fifteen minutes for it to understand me and it doesn't. It asked me his first question and I missed it, I'm such a bad parent!!

In the manual it says that a ??? means what I said wasn't understood, and that's what happened when I tried to respond to his male or female question. The ! would mean "speech confirmed" which I haven't seen at all. I'm starting to wonder if my microphone is bad.

Anyway. Is this a GDEMU issue? Am I just bad? Is my mic bad? Any pointers would be nice.

EDIT: I love posting something than immediately solving my own issue! I think it was the mic, since I plugged in another after learning it's 3.5mm and not 2.5mm, and it worked fine. He was disappointed I wasn't a lady though. Sorry, man.
