Buildhat just won't work :(

Hi, I am relatively new to the Raspberry Pi world. That said I have some familiarity with attaching hats and getting them to run properly with Python code.

I recently got a BuildHat and when I test it I get a "Hat not found error" every time.
Its all set up properly including disabling the serial console. When I run the test code the firmware led stays red and it says "Hat not found."

I have nothing else connected hardware-wise. Just the Rpi and BuldHat, powered using the recommended power supply for the buildHat. I have tried upgrading and updating everything. The only thing I havent tried is to maybe downgrade to an older version of Raspian.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
