My PS2 keeps freezing

So, I recently picked up a PS2 from a family member and when I first played a game day 1 of receiving it, it worked fine. But just a week later, it starts to freeze every so often. It’s not the disc, as it also seems to freeze on the home menu. And after one of these “freezes” it stops showing picture after a reset. Anyone know a fix?
