Question regarding original xbox backwards compatibility update.

[Released: 2005] As the second console from Microsoft, the XBOX 360 completely sold out upon release in all regions except in Japan. About 33% of all consoles became defective making it the most unreliable console ever created.

Will I need a new backwards compatibility update for each title I pop in the system or will it use the same one I downloaded the first time?
The reason I want to know this is if 360 ever goes offline one day I want to know if my old update will do and I wont be screwed out of playing other bc titles.
