Who does home Xbox work?

My son gave my now ex his old Xbox one. It was still my sons home Xbox so my ex has access to all games that are brought. As he is now my ex I want to stop this. My son is about to buy the new COD game and my ex shouldn’t be getting this game for free. Does my son just have to make the new xbox his home Xbox and this will solve it or is there anything else that needs to be done? Hope this makes sense
