analogue mega Sg recs and questions.

So on Friday I got my pre order in for a mega Sg and I'm extremely excited to say the least. This will be my first time playing genesis games in general as the only sega console I have played was the dreamcast. I'm 26 so the genesis was before my time. I'm curious whats the difference between megadrive and genesis because the mega sg will run both. Also what are some game recommendations for shoot em ups, bullet hell, and platformer style games. I'm looking for games that aren't crazy expensive but if it's a game you love and you feel it's worth it please tell me. Also the 8bitdo controllers are all sold out so what type of controllers do yall use and what's the best one for genesis? Thanks guys
