Dumping UMD Files

Hi! I’ve been planning to play only one or two PSP games, and was going to do it through PPSSPP as I already have a very good PC. After getting a game, I realized that most guides use a PSP with custom firmware to dump the ISO. I usually avoid downloading ROMs, but I do on occasion. Is there any way to do this without a physical PSP or is downloading a ROM my only option?
