Console read discs fine, but after a while it starts having problems.

[Released: 1994] Sony entered into an agreement with Nintendo to develop a CD-ROM attachment, for the Super Nintendo. Due to contractual problems it was never released, and instead, a modified version was introduced by Sony called the PlayStation.

Console read discs fine, but after a while it starts having problems.

Post by /playstation »

Hi, I have an SCPH-5502 PSX, after repairing the disc drive (had to order a new one from China, but it had a weak laser, so I swapped the old laser into the new disc drive sleds). As stated in the post name, it reads discs fine (even CD-Rs), but only for about an hour and a half, after that, it starts having problems. The drive gets warmer with time, but that should be quite normal, it doesn't get super hot or anything, and after a while, if the console if off, it cools down and becomes good at reading discs again.
Is this a common issue? I haven't really found any posts on any websites talking about it. Hope any of you could help, would be greatly appreciated.
