Graphics error in smrpg

[Released: 1990] The SNES was the best-selling console of the 16-bit era despite its relatively late start and the fierce competition it faced. The console was able to run some of the first three-dimensional video games on consoles, beginning with Star Fox.

Graphics error in smrpg

So I've been trying to play super Mario rpg and it's not working. Whenever I talk to someone the graphics become garbled and in battle when I press a button the whole screen flashes. It only happens for this game though, my two other games aLttP and SMW work fine.
