Do the analogs work well with ps one games?

I want to do analogs with my ps classic but I am unsure if they do well with the earlier games. Can anyone tell me if they are worth it because as far as I can recall some of the analogs for me did not work as good as far as control goes until I played early ps2 games back in the day.
