Alex Kidd remake demo impressions

[Released: 1985] One of the most unusual features of the Sega Master System is its dual media inputs: one cartridge slot and one card slot. The card slot accepted small cards about the size of a credit card.

Alex Kidd remake demo impressions

Post by /markiiisystem »

Just finished the alex kidd remake demo. Well, there are some missed opportunities here like not using the inventory system from the MD sequel or letting you go backwards in levels, and the uneven difficulty curve is basically intact but it controls better and it looks nice. They also removed the ability to take out ghosts via the star blocks by spawning other items so it disappears, which is not good.
The bull mini-boss was improved upon, maybe some later ones will be too but they also kept the janken. If you know the order from the original you can use that here too though (as long as you don't lose it's a set order), I guess it's not too bad in that sense.
The music sounds like it was made by the same guy that did the Wonder Boy 3: Dragon's Trap remake music, but not as good. It's sort of muted and changes the melody at times in ways I didn't care for.
You can switch to original mode at any point and the transition is fast and smooth, though you still have the added dialogue and slightly different respawn system+the changed ghost despawning mechanic. The sound emulation is slightly off, there's a weird noise when you jump for example. Oh and they also changed the map so you can't check it whenever, you only see it quickly in-between levels now.
What are your thoughts, have you tried the full game yet?
