News has been pretty slow lately as we crawl into summer, but in today’s post, we have something that isn’t an announcement of a game to come nor a tease – it’s a game that’s available right now for any existing exA-Arcadia coin-op platform. That game is called Kira Kira Star Night exa.
If you are unfamiliar with Kira Kira Star Night, then let me get you up to speed. It is a “homebrew” game that was created to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Nintendo Famicom back in 2013 (known to the US as the NES, the Famicom launched in 1983, the NES in ’85). The game itself is fairly simple – stars will pop-up on the screen that needs to be collected, so you hop to it and grab them. They aren’t just sitting there though, so it’s a little easier said than done. Beyond that though, the game was made by famed manga artist & illustrator RIKI, a name that anyone who is into manga should know.
For the exA version, there are a couple of things to note. First, the price. This is the first sub-$1000 game for the platform, but there will be others down the road. Then as mentioned in the first paragraph, it’s available right now. I’ll let the game description do more of the talking, then we’ll show the trailer:
KIRA KIRA STAR NIGHT is an action game created by renown manga artist and illustrator RIKI. From the graphics, sound to the game’s programming, an all star cast of creators have joined together to make this 8-bit tour de force that has been released over a number of formats. Now, KIRA KIRA STAR NIGHT exa comes to the arcade in pixel perfect aspect ratio form with even faster response times than the NES at a special price point. For the first time ever, play the game at 4K in both horizontal and vertical screen orientations. Pick from one of three playable characters and search for the stars!
One other thing to note is that this was developed by the same team (TEAM EXA-AM1) that designedGimmick! Exact*Mix. For the video:
I haven’t played the existing version, but it looks like it’s a straightforward kind of game. It also comes with a good chiptune soundtrack, so if you’re into chiptunes then that’s another thing to enjoy about it. What do you think about this? Have you played the existing versions?
