(Help) My PlayStation bugs out when I insert a disc

I'm not sure what the term for this is, but whenever I insert a disc, the PlayStation will make a lot of funny clicking and spinny noises and the disc just won't be read. Sometimes it also makes the noise of when you eject the disc, but no disc is ejected.
I have to keep removing and reinserting the disc and it will maybe only be read after like the 10th try. It's become infuriating. My brother says it's because the PlayStation is old (had since 2012), is that true or is there another issue?
