GameGenie on NES classic?

Can anyone tell me about adding GameGenie onto a hacked NES Classic? I’ve seen some things saying it’s possible using RetroArch, which I’m not experienced with.
I didn’t have any trouble using Hakchi to add games, but I just don’t know anything about RetroArch. Is it difficult to install/use?
I’m introducing my son to the games I played as a kid, but they’re way harder than modern games and he gets frustrated.
