Is MH4u a good purchase for a first Monster Hunter game?

[Released: 2011] The 3DS is similar to the DS, but is capable of projecting stereoscopic 3D effects without the use of 3D glasses or additional accessories. A redesigned "XL" version of the console was also released.

Okay, maybe a slight lie - my brother had Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on PSP maybe a decade ago. If I remember right, I enjoyed it. Reminded me a bit of Shadow of the Colossus, which may well be my all-time favorite game.
Would it make sense to bet Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate though, if it's basically my first MH game?
