Do i really have to blow the cartridge slot? ?

[Released: 2011] The 3DS is similar to the DS, but is capable of projecting stereoscopic 3D effects without the use of 3D glasses or additional accessories. A redesigned "XL" version of the console was also released.

No seriously do i have to? It's been a year since i bought 2DSXL and i've been thinking what's gonna happen if my own handheld won't read anymore.
Infact, 3DS is my first gaming system that are cartridge and before that it was Playstation (DVD and Blu Ray). I know how to take care of the disc since i was a kid but i have zero experience of cartridge. I heard you need to take care of it because cartridge is quite fragile and broke easily.
