Replacing Cartridge Connector

Post by /n64 »

I have a bent pin on my cartridge connector, possibly from a botched repair by a previous owner. It connects, but looks like it may break.
I've found an ebay listing for a replacement connector for a price I'm willing to pay, but it's not clear to me what the job entails. A quick search for a tutorial brought me to something that looks like a modification to wire the slot externally and play games without inserting them.
What is the name of the type of wrench that can turn the star shaped case bolts, and what size do I need?
What other tools would I need to disassemble the console enough to remove the cartridge connector?
Does the connector slide on and off the main board, or would I need to break the pins off the board and resolder the new ones?
Also, so that I can be sure I'm buying the right connector, is it a 50-pin connector?
