Chrono Trigger freezes.

Hey, I have been unable to find a specific answer to this anywhere. I have retroarch installed. Whenever I boot Chrono Trigger, the games freezes immediately after the opening dialogue boxes ("Wake up, Crono!") every single time. I am unable to play the game. Any advice?
