Did anyone else mainly do a dchdmi mod because they got sick of the squished picture from the hdmi (or vga -> hdmi) boxes?

I mean the gekko image quality is just fine with me it really is, but it just kept bothering me more and more how the image was a little squished... Maybe not the best reason to drop the cash but i can play without the noise in the back of my mind. Did anyone else do it for this reason?
