Sega System C2 multi kit sale & support

Post by Arcade-Projects »

Important information:
Games aren't preloaded in the multi, users must download romsets by themselves then generate appropriate rom files with the tool (for Windows) provided here in attachment:

arcade-projects.com/forums/ind…4a9751f71a669014926bb6155

Here is the list of romsets that must be used:
- Bloxeed (System C) => bloxeedc
- Borench (System C2) => borench
- Columns (System C) => columns
- Columns II (System C) => columns2
- Ichidant-R (System C2) => ichir
- Poto Poto (System C2) => potopoto
- Puyo Puyo (System C2) => puyo
- Puyo Puyo 2 (System C2) => puyopuy2
- Ribbit! (System C2) => ribbit
- Stack Columns (System C2) => stkclmns
- Tant-R (System C2) => tantr
- Thunder Force AC (System C2) => tfrceac
- Twin Squash (original rotary stick version/joystick hack) (System C2) => twinsqua
- Zunzunkyou no yabou (System C2) => zunkyou

Steps:

1) Unzip all romsets at the same place

2) Unzip the C2_V2_ROM_GEN file attached, it contains:
- ips files for ROMs 01 to 05
- C2_V2_ROM_GEN command file
- interleave.exe
- flips.exe

It should like this:

3) Simply run the C2_V2_ROM_GEN command file. It will generate ready to burn files for ROMs 01 to 06:

Before burning any chip please check all files are exactly 4096kb in size.

Q1) What is it?

A1) The Sega C2 multi is a kit supporting multiple Sega System C & C2 games.
It's composed of two boards that plug into the ROM sockets of the System C2 motherboard. The 2 boards are interconnected with cable jumpers.
It supports 14 games plus one hack (joystick hack for Twin Squash).

Q2) Is there a list of supported games?
A2) Sure, here it is:
- Bloxeed (System C)
- Borench (System C2)
- Columns (System C)
- Columns II (System C)
- Ichidant-R (System C2)
- Poto Poto (System C2)
- Puyo Puyo (System C2)
- Puyo Puyo 2 (System C2)
- Ribbit! (System C2)
- Stack Columns (System C2)
- Tant-R (System C2)
- Thunder Force AC (System C2)
- Twin Squash (original rotary stick version) (System C2)
- Twin Squash (joystick hack) (System C2)
- Zunzunkyou no yabou (System C2)

Q3) What donor game can I use?
A3) Any original System C2 game board is a good donor. Here's the list:
- Borench
- Ichidant-R
- Poto Poto
- Puyo Puyo
- Puyo Puyo 2
- Ribbit! (please mention it when ordering)
- Stack Columns
- Tant-R
- Thunder Force AC
- Twin Squash (please mention it when ordering)
- Zunzunkyou no yabou

However be warned Korean versions of the games have mask ROMs soldered. It's still possible to use them as donors but it's a bit of extra work desoldering mask ROMs and installing sockets.

System C games (Bloxeed, Columns and Columns II) ARE NOT GOOD DONORS (incomplete sound section and smaller ROM size supported).
Bootleg boards aren't supported either (there are too many different layouts and most don't have any jumper).
Compatibility with Sega Print boards based on C2 hardware is unknown.

Q4) How do I install the kit?
A4) You must remove ROMs IC4, IC31, IC32, IC33 and IC34. If soldered then desolder ROMs and install DIP32 sockets.

Some jumpers might need to be moved as follow:
JP1 = 1-2
JP2 = 1-2
JP3 = 1-2
JP4 = 1-2
JP6 = 1-2
JP8 = unpopulated
JP9 = 2-3
JP10 = unpopulated

JP5 = 2-1
JP7 = 2-1

JP15 = 2-1
JP16 = unpopulated

JP17 = 2-1
JP18 = 2-1
JP19 = 2-1
JP20 = 2-1
Move them before installing the kit as some of them will be "hidden" then.

Program romboard (bigger one) from the kit plugs into sockets IC31 and IC34 as follow:

Sound romboard (smaller one) from the kit plugs into socket IC4 as follow:

Please check carefully boards fit correctly in the sockets and aren't misaligned by one or two pins.
Boards must be interconnected with the provided cable jumpers. First pin on the left connects to the first pin on the left on the other board and so on (second pin with second pin etc.). Simple as that:

Q5) How do I select a game?
A5) There's a 4 dipswitch bank on the romboard for game selection.

Game DIP(1234)
Bloxeed 0001
Borench 1001
Columns 1011
Columns II 0111
Ichidant-R 0000
Poto Poto 0101
Puyo Puyo 1000
Puyo Puyo 2 1110
Ribbit! 0100
Stack Columns 1100
Tant-R 0010
Thunder Force AC 1010
Twin Squash (original rotary stick version) 1101
Twin Squash (joystick hack) 0011
Zunzunkyou no yabou 0110

Board must be powered off before moving DIPs (if not it won't cause any damage but will crash the game).

There's also a 8 pin header connector next to the dispwitch bank allowing connection for a remote dipswith bank.

Q6) How much does it cost? How do I order?
A6) Please contact @Mitsurugi-w
