Got a Used PS3 with "*Package Manager"

Post by /p3 »

I recently took a chance on a "For Parts" PS3 slim on Mercari- I figured the seller was having issues with the HDCP, and I seem to be correct. When I plugged it in it works fine, but in the Home Screen there is an app called Package Manager, which seems to be a homebrew utility. I mostly got the PS3 just to play MGS4, but I'm on the fence on whether or not I should homebrew it. It is on system version 4.84

So my questions are:

Is it safe to connect the console to the internet, and is it safe to log in with my PSN account?

From this point, would it be relatively easy to homebrew it to install apps and games?

If I decide not to homebrew it, how easy is it to make it a stock, Sony-approved PS3?
