Are pac/galaga sticks black or chrome?

Restoring some galaga sticks and plating everything. I can do zinc with a black chromate, which is like a satin black or nickel on the sticks and can't tell what was original. Same effort either way.

I'd lean to chrome since I can see copper on mine, but honestly there's a lot of black there too, but that could be scum.
